Accessible Transport Services Supporting Camphill Milton Keynes
Dawsongroup isĀ supporting much-loved local charity Camphill Milton Keynes after its only minibus was stolen, stripped for parts, and later set alight, leaving residents without vital transport. When the charity suddenly found itself without its only accessible vehicle, the local community rallied round to help. Among those stepping forward was Dawsongroup, offering short-term transport support while discussions continue around how further assistance could be provided in the months ahead.
Camphill Milton Keynes is a long-established charity providing supported living for young adults with a range of physical and learning disabilities. Part of the wider Camphill movement founded in the early 1940s, the Milton Keynes community was formally established in 1981 alongside the development of the city.
Today, the charity supports 83 residents across twelve communal houses, offering a safe, inclusive environment that includes a theatre, bakery, and arts and crafts workshops. With a long waiting list and strong partnerships with the local authority and other charities, Camphill continues to meet a growing local need.
Short-Term Vehicle Hire Bridging a Critical Transport Gap
The stolen minibus was the charityās only dedicated vehicle, making its loss particularly challenging. Transport plays a vital role in helping residents attend appointments, take part in activities, and remain connected to the wider community. While Willen Hospice kindly loaned an eight-year-old vehicle temporarily, the need for a long-term replacement remains pressing, with an estimated cost of around Ā£30,000.
Reflecting on the impact of the incident, Lucy Davies, Head of Development at Camphill Milton Keynes, said:
āThe vandalism of our minibus has left residents feeling violated. Routine is such an important part of their sense of stability, and when thatās taken away, it shakes their trust and comfort. Weāre doing our best to reassure them while finding a solution.ā
Partnering with Local Charities to Deliver Reliable Community Transport
Recognising the essential role transport plays within the community, Dawsongroup has provided a replacement vehicle free of charge for an initial three-week period, helping to bridge the gap while longer-term options are explored. Discussions are ongoing regarding potential future hire and continued support.

Lucy Davies, Head of Development, and Tim Davies, Chief Executive Officer at Camphill Milton Keynes, recently visited Dawsongroup. They met with representatives to share more about the charityās history, its growth over the years, and the positive impact it continues to have on residents and their families.
āCamphill Milton Keynes does incredible work supporting its residents, helping them live fulfilling, independent lives,ā said Delroy Hudson, Accessible Vehicle Business Development Manager, Dawsongroup bus and coach. āWhen we heard what had happened, we knew we had to help. Itās a wonderful local charity and weāre proud to be able to offer practical support while they work towards a more permanent solution.ā
Camphill Milton Keynes is funded through providing services to individuals with disabilities, including a mix of grants, donations, and fundraising support from local businesses. This has enabled the charity to invest bespoke housing tailored to residentsā needs, making access to reliable transport all the more critical.
For Camphill Milton Keynes, the hope is that the generosity shown by local organisations will help them move forward, regain stability for residents, and continue the vital work they do every day.
Dawsongroupās support reflects its ongoing commitment to the communities in which it operates, working alongside local charities and initiatives that make a meaningful difference.
