Marcus Worrall Introduces a New Way of Thinking for Dawsongroup material handling

Dawsongroup provides robotics and automation solutions which are at the cutting edge of technology – and Marcus Worrall is the person behind them. As Robotics and Automation Consultant for Dawsongroup material handling, Marcus has extensive knowledge of all things automated.

Developing in Leaps and Bounds

Before joining Dawsongroup in September 2021, Marcus gained valuable experience and knowledge in the automation industry through his master’s in engineering business management and his role as a sales engineer for a materials handling company specialising in automation and robotics. From the minute he joined Dawsongroup, initially with the temperature control solutions business, Marcus was out on the road visiting new and existing customers to talk about robotic solutions. He has developed the automation side of the business in leaps and bounds, and his business plan and report on automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), the future of material handling and how Dawsongroup is perfectly suited to break down barriers was very well received and prompted his move – and that of robotics – to Dawsongroup material handling in January this year.

Focusing on Customer Success

Marcus provides an element that builds on Dawsongroup’s existing offer: bespoke solutions that utilise a Smarter Asset Strategy. With his focus on customer success and developing supplier relationships, as well as continuing to grow the business, no two days are the same. Whether visiting customers’ sites and getting to know their business and what they want to achieve, writing reports on bespoke solutions, visiting suppliers, or demonstrating the capacity of the PalPro, Marcus ensures his customers the opportunity to improve their efficiencies, reduce costs and streamline their processes, futureproofing their business.

Marcus’s biggest accomplishment in his time at Dawsongroup was hiring out the first PalPro – an automated end-of-line palletisation system from SCM Handling and robot from KUKA. The customer was so pleased with the result that they ordered a second one within a month of installation.

He recently confirmed the impact Dawsongroup solutions have with one of his customers. When first told about automation being added to their processes, the operator was worried that she would lose her job. However, after six weeks of using the new PalPro system, she couldn’t have been more enthusiastic about how easy it was to use, how she no longer had to lift 17kg boxes and how it has bettered her everyday life.

New Ways of Thinking

Marcus Worrall in fro of the Dawsongroup material handling welcome signImproving customers’ day to day operations is Marcus’s main aim.

“I bring a new way of thinking to what can be achieved through operational expenditure,” said Marcus. “I try to make my customers the heroes of their own stories by laying out the costs of buying compared to hiring and they come to the conclusion that hiring is more cost effective. I guide every customer through the process, how it benefits them and how it can save them money from day one.”

Outside of work, Marcus has always loved animals, so much so that he used to have a smallholding with chickens, sheep and pigs. He also enjoys all kinds of sport and is looking for a new rugby team to join since moving to Leeds with his new position at Dawsongroup material handling.

Marcus’s ambitions include growing the robotics team at Dawsongroup, diversifying the product offering, and supporting the company in becoming a market leader in robotics and automation hire – and he is well on the way to achieving both of these.

“The robotics and automation part of the business has come a long way since I joined Dawsongroup,” said Marcus. “I’m looking forward to continuing that journey and expanding the solutions we can offer our customers.”
