Charity Cheque for the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children

The winner of Dawsongroup truck and trailer charity cheque this year has donated the £1,000 to The Grand Appeal, which supports the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The decision to donate the money to The Grand Appeal was made by Richard Gillman, a third-generation family member and Head of Commercial Sales at Gillmans Electrical Group, the family-owned business that is Gloucestershire’s biggest independent commercial and domestic appliances outlet.

He said, “I was delighted to win the draw made from all respondees to Dawsongroup’s Customer Satisfaction Survey: very surprised, but delighted. And even more delighted to be able to direct it to The Grand Appeal.

“We have been customers of Dawsongroup for many years, not only for trucks and trailers, but across its other businesses such as vans and sweepers. They give us great support whenever we need it, so filling in their Customer Satisfaction Survey was a pleasure.”

The Grand Appeal is named in recognition of its support by local celebrity Nick Parke. The creator of the Wallace and Grommit characters has allowed them to be associated very closely with the appeal.

The ultimate recipient of the donation will be the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, which The Grand Appeal supports.

Richard Gillman has a very special relationship with the hospital, which has cared at different times for both his daughters.

He said, “There simply isn’t a better home for this money than the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. I know first-hand that the people and facilities there are just outstanding, and I am happy to support it in any way I can.”

Dawsongroup truck and trailer Managing Director, John Fletcher, said, “We give a £1,000 cheque every year to the person drawn at the end of our Customer Satisfaction Survey, who can then decide on a worthy destination for the donation. With Richard’s close personal ties to the hospital, this year’s donation is especially appropriate.”
