Dawsongroup Team Completes 330km Charity Cycle for Transaid

Five Riders, Three Days and 330 Kilometres of Determination
A team of 48 riders from across the transport and logistics sector recently cycled 330km from Cork to Dublin, raising more than £90,000 for Transaid’s road safety and healthcare programmes in sub-Saharan Africa.
Among the team were five Dawsongroup representatives. They showed professionalism, resilience, and purpose – proudly flying the flag for our organisation every kilometre of the way.
A Route That Tested Endurance and Teamwork
Over three consecutive days, the riders faced spectacular scenery and demanding terrain:
- Day One: 132 km from Cork to Waterford, featuring coastal stretches and steep climbs
- Day Two: 91 km from Waterford to Carlow, with rolling hills across the countryside
- Day Three: A final 105 km push from Carlow to Dublin, powered by determination and team support
The group rode through heritage towns, historic landmarks and rural landscapes, cheered on by local communities along the way.
Industry Collaboration in Action
The event was supported by headline sponsor Dublin Express, medal sponsor RHA, and event sponsors Dawsongroup and Stanley Travel. Riders represented 16 organisations from across the sector, including: 2K Games Dublin, Asset Alliance Group, Backhouse Jones, Dawsongroup, DVV Media, Iron Mountain, IVECO, Libra Europe, MAN, Michelin, Microlise, PF Whitehead, Pulse Communications, RHA, Stanley Travel and The Malcolm Group.
The challenge highlighted the strength of industry collaboration and our shared commitment to safer transport and better access to essential services worldwide.
Proud of Our Team of Five
While the scale of the event was impressive, we are particularly proud of our own team of five riders. They trained extensively in the months leading up to the challenge and supported one another throughout the ride. Their dedication, discipline and collaborative spirit exemplify our values in action. They not only completed a major physical challenge but contributed to life-saving work far beyond our own borders.
Celebrating Speed and Spirit
Nick Reynolds, Commercial Director said: “Team Dawsongroup team were outstanding. Obviously, it is not a competition, but if it were, Dawsongroup would definitely have won awards for fastest male (well done John Rae) fastest female (well done Emma Law) as well as best Jersey (thanks John Fletcher). The Irish weather looked after us for the first 2 days but got her own back on day 3 with stair rod rain, which made for a somewhat damp group of riders rolling into Dublin. That didn’t dampen the mood though and possibly made that first sip of Guiness when we got to the hotel more rewarding. As always with Transaid, the events are well organised, and the riding group was full of diverse people from across the Logistics and Supply Chain industry. Looking forward to the next one already.”
Facing the Elements
John Fletcher, Managing Director for Dawsongroup truck and trailer reflected on the challenge: “5 intrepid Dawsongroup cyclists, 330km of distance, 3 days to complete and one big aim: to raise much needed funds to support Transaid’s road safety and healthcare projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Day 1 and 2 saw the group blessed with sunshine, and a welcome light tailwind. Ireland is renowned for its verdant greenery; the chances are we would see some rainfall on the trip – you can’t have all that greenery without some rain. However, we didn’t expect to have the whole months’ worth in one morning! Cycling is all about preparation and good equipment, nobody was really prepared, nor any equipment could have dealt with the rainfall and standing water that confronted us. Day 3 meant the group had to dig deep, and although raining heavily the wind was relatively light. Chapeau team DG!”
Making a Real-World Impact
Together, our five riders raised over £17,000. An outstanding contribution from a small team and a significant share of the overall total. Their achievement reflects not only their personal commitment, but also the generosity of colleagues, partners, and supporters across the Dawsongroup network.
The funds will support Transaid’s mission: delivering driver training, improving transport systems, and expanding access to healthcare – often the difference between life and death.
A Job Exceptionally Well Done
We congratulate and thank everyone who took part in the challenge, especially to our five riders who represented Dawsongroup with such commitment and determination.
Their achievement serves as an inspiring reminder of what can be accomplished when individuals step forward, support one another and take action for a worthy cause.
