The Future of Sustainability: Dawson Road’s Decarbonisation Project

Dawsongroup vans building key structures for their decarbonisation plan for Dawson Road

August saw the beginning of our decarbonisation project at our Milton Keynes branch, highlighting a significant step in showcasing our commitment to environmental sustainability. We’re excited to take you along on this journey, providing insights from the initial stages through to completion as we highlight the efforts and innovations that are driving us towards a sustainable future.

What is the project?

The decarbonisation project includes the installation of commercial vehicle carports, solar panels, battery storage systems, and EV charging infrastructure at our Dawson Road location in Milton Keynes. Seventeen dual EV chargers, which amounts to 34 charge points in total, are currently being installed.

Statistics from the zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate show that “70% of new vans sold in Great Britain will now be zero emission by 2030, increasing to 100% by 2035”. Therefore, we need to be future-proofing for when electric vehicles become the main powertrain, and this is exactly what the decarbonisation project is doing.

What is our goal?

The National Grid isn’t always powered by clean energy. Therefore, we’re aiming to remove our reliance on the grid and instead become powered by cleaner energy. To do this we want to generate more energy than needed to power the Milton Keynes depot, and for charging vehicles, which will aid both our fleet and visitors. The surplus energy will be exported back to the grid, which cuts down on non-renewable energy usage while boosting overall grid stability. This will play a crucial role in reducing our carbon footprint while creating a cleaner environment.

What are the benefits of this decarbonisation project?

The decarbonisation project marks another step on our journey towards a greener future, with the potential for many things, including:

Greater operational cost-savings each year.

Demonstrating that the future of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) is likely to be electric.

Showing businesses what is possible for the future of sustainability.

Using our Smarter Asset Strategy and our joint effort with Dawsongroup energy solutions to showcase the importance of renewable energy.

Taking another step on our journey to reaching our Net Zero goal.

When is completion due?

Work is well underway on this project, with expected completion set for December, and the launch date being January.

We are excited to continue this positive journey towards a more sustainable future with you, while showcasing our ongoing efforts – empowering businesses to begin implementing our solutions as we head towards a more sustainable future.
