The Future of Sustainability: Dawson Road’s Decarbonisation Project
Back in August 2024, we launched our decarbonisation project – another clear step in demonstrating the positive impact we’re making on the environment and our commitment to sustainability. From start to finish, we’ll take you through the entire journey, showcasing the work behind this project and how it powers a more sustainable future.
What is the project?
Our decarbonisation project includes the installation of solar panels and EV charging infrastructure at our Dawson Road location in Milton Keynes. We’ve added 17 dual chargers which amounts to 34 charge points in total, to support the growing demand for electric vehicles.
Statistics from the latest Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate confirms that “70% of new vans sold in Great Britain will now be zero emission by 2030, increasing to 100% by 2035”. To stay ahead, we need to be future proofing our operations now for when electric vehicles become the main powertrain. This is exactly what the decarbonisation project focuses on.
What is our goal?
The National Grid isn’t always powered by clean energy. Therefore, we’re aiming to remove our reliance on the grid and instead become powered by cleaner energy. To do this we want to generate more energy than needed to power the Milton Keynes depot, and for charging, which will aid both our fleet and visitors. The surplus from this can be exported back to the grid, which cuts down on non-renewable energy usage, while boosting overall grid stability. This will play a crucial role in reducing our carbon footprint, while creating a cleaner environment.
What are the benefits?
The decarbonisation project marks another step on our journey towards a greener future, with the potential for many things, including:
- Great cost-savings each year.
- Being able to demonstrate that the future of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) is likely to be electric.
- Showing you what you could do for the future of sustainability.
- Using our Smarter Asset Strategy and our joint effort with Dawsongroup energy solutions to showcase the importance of renewable energy.
- Taking another step to reaching our Net Zero goal.
When is completion due?
Work is well underway on this project, with expected completion set for December, and the launch date being January 2025.
We can’t wait to continue this positive journey towards a greener future with you to see how we will continue to demonstrate our sustainability efforts. This project at Dawson Road is just another step towards a brighter future! Stay tuned for more updates…
