Dawsongroup’s Energy Efficient Solutions for DFDS

DFDS has been moving goods and people since 1866. Headquartered in Copenhagen, DFDS is northern Europe’s largest integrated shipping and logistics company.

They provide solutions supporting food, automotive, metal and forest industries through their expansive logistics and shipping network. More specifically, the Cold Chain Division encompasses the complete end-to-end transportation of products from source to factory, from factory to warehouse, and from warehouse to retail both domestically and internationally.

Ian Woodward and Michael Sansum meeting to discuss the energy efficient solutions for DFDS25 Years of Partnership

With a relationship spanning 25 years, Dawsongroup has provided a variety of solutions for DFDS. Our flexible hire options provide the scalability needed to expand as demand requires, whilst our modular solutions – including state-of-the-art blast freezers from Dawsongroup temperature control solutions (tcs) – ensure the high quality of their frozen products.

New equipment can be trialled before signing any contracts, giving DFDS the opportunity to analyse and assess energy efficiency and service standards. Dawsongroup’s Smarter Asset Strategy provides added value in the supply chain alongside up to date technology to ensure the highest quality products and services for DFDS and their customers.

Michael Sansum, Strategic Account Manager for Dawsongroup tcs, works closely in partnership with DFDS to ensure the best possible detail and outcome is always achieved.

“Our ability to assist company growth and supply chain control is second to none,” said Michael. “We have partnered with DFDS to assist them with added value blast and tempering facilities, allowing them to move, store and supply more product which in turn increases their core business with new high value revenue streams.”

Energy Efficient Solutions

It is not just equipment that tcs supplies, but technical knowledge and support in DFDS’ journey with cold chain, and blast freezing in particular. The Dawsongroup technical team provide on-site training to increase awareness and knowledge for staff and management. This gives them an in-depth knowledge of the equipment and allows them to investigate further opportunities with customers in the future.

An additional feature of all tcs blast freezers is that they can temper products as well as freeze, making them ideal for maintaining the integrity of the cold chain. The units have given DFDS increased visibility of the blast freezing process and enabled them to standardise their processes and make them more efficient.

Dawsongroup’s solutions have increased pallet capacity and efficiency on cycle times for DFDS, which in turn means that the product is frozen more quickly, and the end result is of an even better quality than before. The energy efficiency of the equipment has meant a substantial reduction in carbon emissions, contributing to the company’s commitment to improving their environmental footprint.

“We have a trusted partnership with Dawsongroup,” said Ian Woodward, Head of Projects & Continuous Improvement for DFDS. “They have provided us with increased capability and energy efficiency, which fits with our aim to become more sustainable, and their ‘can-do’ attitude means they are also easy to work with. Going forward, we know we can call on Dawsongroup for all our blast freezing and tempering needs.”

A Smarter Asset Strategy

“When we understand the supply chain process for our customer, we can reduce the miles the product needs to travel,” said Michael. “By utilising Dawsongroup’s Smarter Asset Strategy, DFDS can provide a solution for their customers all in one place, reducing the number of trucks on the road and amount of diesel used, and helping them in their ambition to achieve a 45% reduction in their carbon emissions by 2030.”

Dawsongroup tcs offers trials on all their equipment, from blast freezing and tempering to cleanrooms and inflatable solutions.
